Hitler was born in Austria in 1889 and he served in the German army during World War I. Hitler was an anti-Semites, which are people who are hostile to or prejudice against Jews, and like many anti-Semites Hitler “blamed the Jews for the country’s defeat in 1918” (The Holocaust). Hitler was a powerful and magnetic speaker. He attracted many Germans desperate for change. “He promised the disenchanted a better life and a new and glorious Germany.” (Hitler Comes to Power).
After the war had ended, in 1919 Hitler joined the National Socialist German Workers Party also known as the Nazis and he became one of the seven committee members who headed the party. “this group held meetings to discuss the present government and its weakness, to remember the better days before World War I, to talk about the danger to Germany of the Bolsheviks (communists) who had recently come to power in Russia, and to discuss the danger within Germany—the Jews” (Rossel 11). Hitler didn’t like to just sit there in these meetings and discuss ideas, he wanted to make a change and enforce all of these ideas so he started handwriting letters to different people to try and convince them to come to one of his party’s meetings and see what they were all about. But no one came except the actual members. But Hitler was determined to get people to come. So he kept writing out invitations until finally people started to come, more and more every meeting.

Hitler was a Nazi and the Nazis appealed to young people, the unemployed, and also people of the lower middle class. Some examples of people the Nazis appealed to were small store owners, office employees, craftsmen, and farmers just to name a few.
After being imprisoned for treason for his role in the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler became obsessed with the idea of dominance of the "pure" German race. When Hitler was released from prison he started to take advantage of the weakest of his rivals to “enhance his party's status and rise from obscurity to power” (The Holocaust). After he was released Hitler rose to power very quickly especially after the economic depression struck.
Before the economic depression struck the Nazis had only won three percent of the votes to the Reichstag/ German parliament elections in 1924. But once the economic depression struck, the Nazis had received thirty-three percent of the votes which was more than any party so they won the election. And in January of 1933 Hitler became the head of the German government and many Germans believed that “they had found a savior for their nation” (Hitler Comes to Power).
